Meet the Bear

At the edge of the wilderness and the heart of a camp kitchen, Mocking Bear Outfitters was born.

I grew up fishing, hiking, and camping in the Sierra Nevadas of Northern California—those mountains taught me everything from tying my first fishing knot to the unwritten rule that there's always work to do when you get to camp (even if you'd rather just relax by the fire).

Life as a cook has taken me to some incredible places: Yellowstone, where I drove a chuck wagon pulled by draft horses and fed 200 tourists ribeye steaks every evening. The Everglades. Seattle, where I ran an oyster bar and moonlighted as an elevator operator at the Space Needle. Maui, where I'd paddle out on a surfboard way too small for me every morning before work. And now, Alaska—where I feed wildland firefighters and get to see some of the most beautiful, rugged wilderness on earth.

I'm a cook by trade, a traveler by soul, and someone who's spent a lifetime chasing sunsets, stories, and smiles under open skies.

Why "Mocking Bear"?

Here's the truth: I'm a big guy. Always have been. And I do a pretty mean impression—enough that friends started calling me a mockingbird. Then someone said, "Nah, you're more like a mocking bear." The name stuck.

And it fit perfectly—because as a bigger guy, I know firsthand how frustrating it is to search for outdoor apparel that doesn't look like a walking billboard or a gaudy cartoon. I wanted shirts that looked good, felt incredible, and were something I'd actually wear on a date—not just around a campfire.

So I created them.

We print them on ridiculously soft, premium fabric because comfort matters, especially when you're living life to the fullest.

We can absolutely get it for you. It's not hard, and it's literally why we're here. I built this brand because I was tired of being left out of cool outdoor apparel, and I refuse to do that to anyone else. Don't let a missing size stop you from getting a shirt that speaks to you.
